Washington bound... this is a family that will be missed.
I've been their family photographer since Lincoln was the star of their maternity pictures. He turns three in just a few months, as his family is starting a new adventure in the Pacific Northwest. What a little cutie!

Where do you photograph a boy who loves trucks and cars, a dad who loves to crash them in demolition derbys, and a mom who loves them both with all her heart? This seemed like just the right place...

I have to admit, I am not a morning person. But, I should be, because...
The sun rising over the Wasatch mountains on the way to this session was gorgeous.
Krista handing me a chai (my favorite) as she stepped out of their car made my whole day.
And, the sunlight peeking through this fence was amazingly beautiful.

Hey Lincoln! Take care of your sweet family in Washington, ok? We'll see you again soon!

Neva Fels:
What a lovely family. Sorry to hear you're moving. At least you can take your gorgeous pictures with you.

In May, myself and approximately 150 photographers across the country signed up with Becky Higgins for her Big Photography Giveaway to donate a photo session to a "deserving family in our neck of the woods". On the day that Kari Sikorski Photography was featured, I was so excited to read the comments section where participants wrote why they would like to be chosen to receive a photo session with me. Reading them all, I wondered how I would ever know which one to pick as the winner... until I read Jenn's entry.
"Family is the most important thing to me and this love has been solidified even more over the last 16 months!! My darling husband had a brain tumor removed and a professional family picture is the number one thing that I have wanted to do in celebration of all that we have been through these last months!!! I think there is no better way to have physical evidence that the trials in life can make you stronger!!!"

You see, my husband Bill is a cancer survivor as well. Reading Jenn's entry brought me right back to the moment the doctor confirmed our fear of testicular cancer 6 years ago as our one year old son toddled around his desk. I remembered the tears, uncertainty and fear, and his surgeries and painful recovery. I remembered Bill's strength & positive attitude, and the love and support of our family and friends.
This was the right family to choose.

Meet Paige... giggly and fun, she is full of smiles!

and little sis, Abbie... sweet & shy, and daddy's girl.

gosh these two were cute!

and fast!

Jenn & Tom... full of love & strength for each other. Jenn told me a quote that she loves and is planning to hang on the wall with her pictures...
"The view I love the most is my front porch looking in."
It says so much about how much she loves her family, and values their time together.

There is another great line from that same Lonestar song...
"my blessings are in front of me".
With these three ladies in his life, I know that Tom is surrounded by the best medicine... their love.

It was a pleasure to meet such a sweet family! Thank you Jenn, Tom, Paige & Abby for a very fun session!

More favorites from Banner & Harry's session. A bit of romance...

Passion, mystery... I absolutely love this one!

Banner's orange heels turn on the heat!

I love the sweetness of this photo below... and the sun setting against all of those windowpanes.

This one below was really fun to shoot. I wanted to play with proportion & composition, and I just love how this turned out! I just kept asking Harry to "back up a little more..."
Banner's expression and stance is fabulous, she looks like a superhero...
strong, confident, fearless. I love it!

Thank you Harry & Banner for sharing your story with me. I really loved getting to tell it through photographs. Your session was absolutely a blast!
What's your story?

I'm a sucker for a good love story...
When Banner was 5 years old, her family was stationed at an Air Force base in northern Italy, in a small town near Lake Garda. They lived in the same apartment complex as the owner of a restaurant, and once a week, her family and a group of friends would meet at the restaurant to have dinner. She has childhood photos standing in the old buildings (built in the 1500's) amongst wine barrels and cows on the farm. The restaurant, Mirrabello, and the family that owns it are still near & dear to her heart.

The first time she met Harry, she was bussing tables at Mirrabello during a visit back to Desenzano. One of the owner's daughters, and whom Banner used to play with as a young child, asked her to bring drinks to Harry's table because they were English speaking (he is from the UK). There were about 10 people there with him, but Chiara pointed her in Harry's direction because she knew that they both enjoy rock climbing. She was right, and they hit it off immediately. But that was that. She returned to her life in the U.S.

A year later, Banner returned. Traveling to Italy this time was for a much needed break, an escape. A time start a new, fresh chapter in her life. One night, Harry and a friend came into Mirrabella after a snowboarding trip for a late dinner.

(insert falling in love here...)

...and the rest is history! After many phone calls, emails, visits and flight miles, Harry moved to the USA, and they were married this past spring.

True story.
Driving by this historic train station in Salt Lake City this summer, I thought of my own honeymoon, where we spent 4 weeks traveling by train in Italy. There is something romantic and quaintly old fashioned about train travel... It made me think of Harry and Banner's story, and I knew they were the perfect couple for this location. Their session was really fun because of the energy they brought to it. They were incredibly relaxed and natural in front of the camera, and what I really loved was that you could really see how they feel about each other every time their eyes met.
